Earth Day Buy Nothing Event
Practicing Sustainability and Subverting Consumerism Together
Our community Buy Nothing Events offer a powerful, practical way to live out our UU values by honoring the interdependent web of life and caring for our planet. We invite neighbors from across Richmond to bring gently used items—such as clothing, kitchenware, and artwork—that no longer serve them, and take home treasures that do. There is no donation or fee required to participate because everything at this neighborhood swap is completely free. By sharing our collective resources and keeping usable goods out of landfills, we foster a spirit of radical generosity, step outside traditional capitalism, and support local thrift stores with our remaining leftovers.
The next Buy Nothing Event is planned for Black Friday, November 27, 2026.

Bring donations 10am – Noon

No donation is required to participate – take what you need, leave what you don’t
This is such a great way to practice ways outside of capitalism. Bring items that no longer serve you and take home some that might!
Donations are accepted until noon.
Donations must be brought in by noon
Please sort clothing by size and place in a box separate from other items. Label box with size.

Please do NOT Bring:
broken items
food items
expired cosmetics/beauty products
stained clothing
items too large to be transported home in a car (leave a photo and contact information instead!)

If you have a large item to donate, please bring a photo of the item and your contact info instead.
Everything is free. Leftover items will go to local thrift stores..
We need volunteers, especially those who have large vehicles to take leftovers to the thrift stores.
