Defending Democracy and Amplifying Every Voice Through Civic Engagement

At First Unitarian Universalist RVA, we affirm that democratic participation is a sacred right and a vital practice of our faith. Through UU the Vote—the national nonpartisan civic engagement initiative—our congregation mobilizes to protect voting rights, combat voter suppression, and encourage full participation in civic life. From hosting voter registration drives and GOTV phone banks to sending postcards and organizing community events like "Souls to the Polls," we work tirelessly to ensure that all eligible voters can safely and freely make their voices heard. Join us in strengthening our democracy, promoting voter equity, and building a liberatory future where everyone belongs.

Elections are openings — moments when a nation pauses to imagine its future. They invite us to build community and democracy through our courage, our relationships, and the choices we make together. Ahead of this year’s national election in November, we hope you’ll join us for launch of UU the Vote 2026: Ignite Solidarity, Reimagine Democracy.

We will honor the sacred privilege of voting by pledging to:

  • Make sure every eligible member is registered to vote.
  • Distribute information about ways to vote.
  • Promote the sacred privilege of voting.
  • Learn about candidates by attending candidate forums and distributing information.
  • Participate in community-wide efforts to register people and get people to the polls.
  • Engage those who are not eligible to vote to participate in civic life and encourage others to vote.
