Advocating for Equity and Dignity Through Legislative Action

At First Unitarian Universalist RVA, we honor our faith’s commitment to the democratic process by actively participating in policy advocacy at the local, state, and federal levels. In partnership with organizations like the Virginia Interfaith Center for Public Policy (VICPP) and Unitarian Universalists for Social Justice (UUSJ), our team works to influence legislation on critical issues such as healthcare access, criminal justice reform, affordable housing, and environmental protection. From attending state lobby days and meeting with elected officials to writing postcards and educating our congregation on key bills, we translate our core values into legislative impact. Join us as we raise our voices together to advocate for systemic change and laws that uphold the dignity of every person.

Re-imagining Culture and Cultural Engagement Webinar Series.

This series will explore how we understand culture, how we build cultural curiosity, and how cultural intelligence can be applied in real community settings. Together, we will examine culture not as something static or distant, but as something lived, learned, shared, and practiced in our daily work.

Fund-Raising for Detained Immigrants

The Richmond Community Legal Fund is a nonprofit legal collaborative that connects community members with legal resources, both legal representation and necessary funds for legal defense. Federal assaults on the lives and civil liberties of working people are more severe than most of us have seen in our lifetimes. Virginia Interfaith Center for Public Policy

With the primary over, VICPP will continue to urge everyone to get to know the candidates and make a plan to vote! This summer VICPP will be working on a number of issues:

First, continue advocating for funding Medicaid for all, and maternal and community health.

In addition, VICPP has voiced their concerns and are willing to help congregations as we work together to support our immigrant populations.

Finally, working on other issues, including affordable housing and better treatment of those incarcerated.

The Virginia Interfaith Center for Public Policy advocates economic, racial, and social justice in Virginia’s policies and practices through education, prayer, and action.

This year, all members in the House of Delegates are up for election. Many things are happening, including voting on three Constitutional Amendments; those will then have to be voted on again next year, and assuming passage, will then be put on the ballot for Virginia citizens to vote on in 2026.

VICPP is seeing many of the legislation priorities being passed, including ending shackling of youth offenders.

VICPP is working with a multitude of organizations to stand against the current president’s agenda re immigration and the undocumented.
